Genyochromis mento, which has a lot of geographical variants, can be found all around the lake. This is also a species with a lot of O and OB-variants, as well as males and females. They can be found in all kinds of habitats except in open water and just occasionally on places whithout possibilities to hide. Usually you can find them near rock formation and in the intermediate zones from rocks to sandbottom. This male OB-example was found in the neighbourhood of Undu Reef. In the lake the males of these species can grow to about 13 cm, females about to 10 cm. In an aquarium however they can grow a little taller because of the good feeding. Then the males can grow to about 15 cm, females grow to about 12 cm. Genyochromis mento is a cichlid which behaves itself really agressive against all fish within a range of ± 50 cm. You can best keep this species with multiple females, however without other inhabitants, in a special decorated tank with a lot of swimming space for them exclusively. In the lake Genyochromis mento feeds mainly with fins of all fish they are able to attack, furthermore they are also feeding themselves with their scales. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
